“1453-1821 The Time of Liberation” (Greek title: «1453-1821 Η Ώρα της Απελευθέρωσης») was the first Greek turn-based and real-time strategy PC game. It focused on the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire. The game was an effort of 4 freshman-year university students and its development phase lasted two years. It was officially released in 2008 and managed to reach the first place in Game charts among international AAA titles. The game, shortly, became a best seller title and after one year and a half its revenue was >$210K. This game resulted in creating one of the first Greek Game Development Startups (SDS Game Studios).

Our team was one of the leading teams in Greece in terms of game development. Due to the publicity we identified more indy teams that developed games in the country and we became one the founding members of the Hellenic Game Developer Association in the late ’00s.
